NYFW & Thom Browne

New York Fashion Week is ovahhh. And London Fashion Week is ovahhh. The trends for Spring/Summer 2014 have been set and I've had a few days to reflect. For the most part, designers showcased their ready-to-wear lines, which are exactly as they sound -- things that you and I could wear freely without feeling like we're walking down a runway in Milan. And oh yeah, make sure to hold on to all those crop tops you bought specifically for Lollapalooza and hot basement parties, they'll still be "in" come the new year.

While everyone was busy designing clothes for the everyday woman, I bet Thom Browne was sitting in his studio like, "The everyday woman is a bit deranged. So, she should look a bit deranged." From that totally made up, yet totally plausible thought process comes Thom Browne's Spring/Summer 2014 collection.

Here's what the man himself had to say about his, errr, different methods regarding presentation (via Complex):
'"Yes, it definitely is attached to tailoring but it’s also attached to so much more. I love the idea of things being strict and things being uniform," Browne said. "That’s the reason why I surround each collection with humor or irony. I want to make sure that it’s not too serious and that there is some element that throws it off because otherwise that would make it really boring. There’s always a story that’s somewhat fantastical. I think it makes the uniformity of it all far more interesting."'

I was seeing bits and pieces of this collection on Instagram. Like, this...

Tastemakers: Takahiro Kinoshita

When I first started checking out fashion blogs regularly, particularly street style blogs, Takahiro Kinoshita always caught my attention. Before I even knew his name, there were photos saved on my computer of him killing it during fashion week. Kinoshita is Editor-in-Chief of Popeye Magazine, a Japanese men's magazine. So, it only makes sense that when it comes to menswear, Kinoshita is on top of his game. One minute he's got on an incredibly cool and casual fit, and the next he is tailored to the nines complete with knit ties tucked into his pants. Also, take note of his haircut -- it's a thing, like, he actually styles it (a great haircut is a great accessory). His ability pull off (see: stunt) two different styles so effortlessly earns Kinoshita All Worn Out's first nod as a Tastemaker.

Still dope even when it's cold.

Woman Crush Wednesday: Red Lips

Make-up eludes me. Beyond the basics, I know nothing. Primer. What? BB Cream. What? CC Cream. What? And don't get me started on this new trend of fake eyelashes. Like, what? Leaving all of that aside, my lack of knowledge regarding this thing that some would call quintessentially "feminine" does not mean I can't recognize a well made-up face.

I often find myself most intrigued by bold lips. Much like a nice accessory, a bold lip, red lips in particular, add much to an outfit. Clothes are awesome, but sometimes it's nice to have people drawn to your face. And a lipstick in a stand out shade accomplishes just that; it will make your face an integral part of your overall look. These pictures were ones saved to my computer with "lips" as the name. Acquired over the years of blog stalking, I can finally put them to good use.

So, the red lip. It can tie an outfit together, like in the picture below, or provide a contrast, like in the final picture. Yea, fall is on the way and that means ringing in a dimmer color palette, but uhh eff that. Add some brightness to your lips to give a dark outfit a tinge of fun. Also, the great thing about red (and colors in general) is that there is just one "red." It completely brightens your face. I've literally never seen a woman look bad with red lipstick. It exudes confidence. And, bonus, it makes your smile look a bajillion times whiter. Just take the time to find the shade that's right for you. Take a note from these stunning ladies, red lips are the way to go.

Completely Covetable: College Wish List

It's back to skoooo time. Womp wahhh. One good (read: really effing awesome) thing about going back to school is that I get to go "back to school shopping." It's just a clever way to disguise buying the same thing in different versions. We all need three denim jackets, right? Right.

Lucky for me, I had a horribly low paying job this summer, so I have a few bucks to spare on some new digs. The Labor Day sales treated me very well, but a girl can never have enough. Most of my friends have already shipped off to college, or started school here in the city. I ain't go no frans. Sad life. But, a bit of retail therapy is exactly what the doctor prescribed.

By the grace of the universe I was able to cut down my list to three solid items. There are a bunch of other things I want, but these are the things I would absolutely love to own. These would also be three pretty big purchases for a student; all in all, the would ring in around 1,000 bucks. It's safe to say, I will not be getting everything on this list. Ya win some, ya lose some.
Golden Bear sportswear for J.Crew varsity jacket

I've been looking for a varsity jacket for some time now. I've taken to thrift stores, asked family members, but I haven't been able to find the right one. Having just mentioned this sort of jackets presence in thrift stores and dusty attics, you might wonder why I would even consider dropping anything over 60 dollars for this jacket. But, it's simple: I just like nice things. And that jacket is a nice thing.

When I got the September Style Guide from J.Crew, the first page I opened to featured a model in these shoes. I swear it was fate. Earlier this year, Cole Haan was carrying double monks for women and I just slept on that. Definitely one of the biggest mistakes I've made -- my closet shed a tear. Needless to say, these will definitely be purchased. They're menswear inspired and just cool. With some cropped jeans and well fitting t-shirt (shout out to Madewell), these shoes will take that impossibly simple outfit to the next level.

Don't have a significant other? Get a nice watch. All ladies need some nice arm candy. **cue the "duhhh"s from the crowd** I, like every other young woman, am completely obsessed with Marc Jacobs. His clothes are the epitome of fun without being foolish. I've been eyeing rose gold watches for a while and this is the one for me. I tried it on in store about a week; nothing but stars in my eyes. It's a great cross between a heavy boyfriend watch and a classic women's watch. Well done, Marc, well done.

Keep up with my daily musing via Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. See you on the interwebzz.
