Fashion Bibles

This past summer I read fashion blogs like crazy. I straight up spent eight hours one day looking at blogs. That's cray. And I just so happened to stumble upon some book recommendations by some of my style icons. Since my icons recommended them, I bought them like any star-crazed fan would.

1. Take Ivy. This book chronicles a Japanese photographer and three Japanese authors journey through the Ivy League universities. It is revered as one of the most influential books on style. Originally published in Japan in 1965, Take Ivy sparked an influx of people imitating American "Ivy Style" in Japan. Essentially, a fashion bible for those of us that favor a prep aesthetic (like me). And if you're a big baller, shot caller, pick up the updated version, Take 8 Ivy, for a cool fifty bucks.

2. The Sartorialist. If you need an explanation for this, then you need to reevaluate your life. I'm kidding. I'm not that much of a buttface... Seriously, I'm not. Okay, on to more relevant topics. About two years ago, Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist (the blog that book inspired) compiled some of the most sartorially striking photographs along with commentary to create a book that can inspire anyone. Schuman's blog is the one that really got me hooked on fashion; I have 72 of my favorite pics from his blog saved and on constant rotation as the background of my laptop. My love for him is real. Showcasing a wide range of styles, this may just be the fashion bible for anyone that loves, well, life. And I'm going to go ahead and guess that that's most of us.

3. Classy: Exceptional Advice for the Extremely Modern Lady. I'm not going to lie, I have referred to myself as "bro" once or twice (numerous times), and Derek Blasberg has made me rethink my ways. And yes, I know, there are many feminist arguments that can be said for and against this book, but it has some great advice in it. Like when it's okay to use foul language in reference to some skank (whoops) that accidentally stole your iPhone, and what "casual" and "white tie" really mean. It's useful stuff. Blasberg's voice really shines through and makes for a fun and informative read. And like Take Ivy, there is now an updated version with even more advice for young ladies, check it out. This is the fashion bible for anyone that thinks they need to do a little brushing up on basic manners. And manners matter.

And I know you just added these books to your wish list. Ya know, since I'm your style icon and all.

Wish List: Ashton

Editor's Note: The ladies of all worn out are super excited about our first male guest blogger. Ashton is one of Steph's bestest best friends, which makes this even more exciting. Go ahead, drool over his picks, leave comments, and share with all your friends!

The first male blog on All Worn Out…name me a fashionisto. (Now that was critical.) But here is the truly anticipated wish list of them all, let’s get to my fashion forward style.

Black Watches- So one of the top items on my list has got to be a new watch. Seeing that the CTA is my daily transportation, I think Fossil is the right brand for me, but if you want to one up a brother, go for that Diesel. Though brown is starting to make a hit on the scene, I think black is still worth wearing, proudly.

TOMS- As you may have seen, let me rephrase, MUST HAVE seen in Steph’s post about missing the days when it was still okay not to wear socks, I have had the same issue with my Toms. My solution: the newer seasonal selection… made for those wintry Chicago nights when you still want to look on point. Plus, SOCKS WITH TOMS… 1-2-3 FLAME.

Toggle Coat- But really lets get down n’ dirty and talk about my true must have, and that is a toggle coat. I won’t be giving out the source of this ticket item, I have a feeling after this post they will all go out of stock. Kind of not kidding, but the toggle coat is the one trend I must join along with and this one from Old Navy is a true killer. (And did I mention at the moment it is on sale at $60!!!)

Hunter- I am trying to make Hunters a staple for men at Payton so…

Scarves- Oh, and also a great staple to have are some nice scarves, eyeing these at Urban Outfitters.

So if you really want girls to like you, you should know this is the way to go. Unless you plan to be a victim of a 1-2-3 flame, I beg of you to incorporate some of the trendy ideas you see in my list. I can just see it now, going out on the town in your best pair of pants, I’d opt for some 511 Super Skinny Levi Cords, your seasonal TOMS, that sexy black watch and oh my, that toggle coat. Okay, I think you get the point.

Wish List: Steph G.

Finally, the moment we've all been waiting for: the unveiling of Steph G.'s wish list. DUN DUN DUNNNNN.
Ha, I'm kidding. But, let's get to it.

1. Desert Boots. Oh, yeahhhhh. So, I'm sure a lot of you have seen me walking down the hall in some busted suede desert boots, and I think it's time i got a new pair. These Clarks are going to look great after the leather gets all worn out (get it?!).

2. Plaid shirts. I don't really think this needs an explanation, but I love the sound of my blogging voice (I may be crazy...). Lalalalalalalalalalala blog voice. This one is from J. Crew. It's real crute, if you know what I mean.

3. L.L. Bean Boots and boot socks. Can't have boots without boot socks. Surprisingly, socks can get expensive (yes, I am talking about J. Crew), but I found some for relatively cheap at Target. Of course they are not as luxurious as 88 dollar cashmere socks, but they will do. And I'm not raggin' on J. Crew, I love me some J. Crew.

4. Kanye West. Ummm.....yeah. He's on my list. So this idea of me being crazy (or cray) is coming back: I'm obssesed with Kanye. He is the epitome of a well-dressed man. Let's look at him.

both pics courtesy of The Sartorialist

I know these pics just sparked an undying love for him in your heart. He's just so stylish. And all other good things in this world (I'll do an in-depth exploration of my love for him on a later date). I went to his concert and got a shirt, but I really only like it because it says "Kanye West" on the back. I'm also assuming it's obvious which person I am in the picture below....I am more hoping than assuming.

5. And last, but not least, I am going to wish for another intangible thing. Can you guess what it is?? No? I am wishing that my favorite teacher (the other Kanye fan in that pic) and his wife enjoy their time with their newborn baby. I know they will, but let's all take some time and send good vibes and love their way. I'm so happy for them, and their destined-to-be-hopeless-romantic December baby. And just so everyone knows, the baby's name is Riri.

Okay, you caught me. Her name isn't Riri.
