Ridin' Round Acting Cool

Hey! This is Maya, Steph’s friend from school.  As I await her visit, I reminisce on our beautiful, fulfilling days in the windy city. A big part of our lives at UChicago was biking around Hyde Park like a mini biker gang of two; it’s also one of the things I love doing in my neighborhood. Since I’ve been back, biking has been a great way for me to pretend to exercise and avoid chores at home while endangering the general public by attempting to simultaneously photograph the adventure.

My best biking buddy is fashion enthusiast Olivia Culver! We’ve been friends for years which can only be explained by the mind control tactics I’ve been employing. Olivia won best dressed back in high school and I’d credit that to her eccentric, eclectic, edgy and always flattering style that was hard not to notice in a school like ours.  She’s incredibly talented at utilizing thrift stores finds and layering accessories that make her outfits look effortlessly put together.  Here she is looking supes playful and sporty, perfect for our bike adventure!

She’s wearing a Dimepiece jersey over a simple a-line camo tank dress from Urban Outfitters. The oversized shirt and loose skirt plays with a kind of juvenile theme which is accentuated by her converse. We agreed the outfit could have had a vastly different vibe were the shoes changed, a pair of wedged sneakers for example would make it more of a “going out” look.  For the purposes of our simple bike ride though, converse were majorly appropriate.  She also brought along a light wash denim jacket, the most casual of the denim jackets… but her huge timepiece still suggests she is a responsible young adult who knows how to keep track of time, lest we were fooled by her youthful outfit.

A.P.C. x Kanye

If you've been keeping up with life, then you know that the Fall/Winter 2014 collection of the A.P.C.'s collaboration with Kanye West hit the shelves yesterday. The first look at the collection was revealed a couple of weeks ago and, yes, like the first collection, it features a plain white tee.

The collection is simple with a clear military influence. The price points range from a $90 white t-shirt to a $2,865 parka with fur. In between, you get your $340 sweaters and $280 jeans. Maybe I spend too much time looking at expensive clothes and that has somehow skewed my perception, but these price points don't seem too insane. Check out the full collection here

While I do like the collection, I'm not exactly blown away by it. I know the fit and quality of each piece goes crazy, but I'm not sitting here trying to figure how to acquire a couple of stacks to get one of these pieces for myself. I'd still probably try to date you if you popped out in one of these pieces though. Just bein' honest.

Speaking of popping out, hella dudes were outside of APC's shop in NYC waiting to drool all over this stuff. The sneaker game was pretty strong, but this lady wins for standing out amidst a bunch of guys wearing hoodies in the middle of summer **no shade**.

Summer Blues

It's actually been months since I've posted. Life got too real at the end of the school year and, unfortunately, I wasn't able to keep up with muh bloggie wog. Hope ya didn't miss me too much. And I hope you're as excited about Maya joining the team as I am. She's one of my best friends and I'll be visiting her in Detroit, excuse me, The D, very soon.

Summer is finally upon us. Kind of. If you're in Chicago, then you've experienced the weather-related ups and downs that are indicative of this fine town. I've found myself jeans and a jacket quite a bit this summer, but I'll take a little cool weather over sweltering heat any day.

And ohh haiiii, new hair. My friend hooked me up with some twists for the summer. They're super long and constantly leave me wondering how people who have long hair comfortably and effectively complete every day tasks, like getting dressed and eating without having their hair getting in the way of everything. Hmmm, the questions of life.

Today, I went to check out an art installation put up by the Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health at the Hull House on UIC's campus. My friend Kami is involved in the organization and the work they do advocating for laws that ensure youth have control over their bodies is pretty great. Be sure to check them out if that's something you're interested in.

I wore Mom Jeans from Topshop, a jacket from Gap, a throwback University of Michigan Rose Bowl t-shirt that I cut into a crop top, and Cole Haan penny loafers. These are my favorite jeans, probably, ever. They're mad comfortable (I bike in them), and they're the perfect wash for summer. The only qualms I have with these jeans are the two rather large holes on my thigh, which were totally my fault, but still. If you happen to be a whiz with a needle, hit me up. I'd love to have those patched up nicely.

Also, do not let this t-shirt fool you. I am an Ohio State fan to the bone. This shirt was a gift and it is aesthetically appealing. Those are the only reasons I wear it. So, there.

I hope you all have been enjoying the sun and summer. Keep up witcha girl on Facebook and Twitter

Big thanks to Kamaria Woods for the photos.
