Chocolate chip banana anything is pretty much my favorite. Bread, muffins, shakes, all so good. I have been making these muffins for a while now, but I usually have three or so recipes open in different tabs, then mix and match the ingredients that I think make baking sense. Last time I made these treats, I decided to document my process and share it with you all. These muffins are soft, fluffy, and non-vegan approved.
So…this blog has a new name. “All Worn Out” is now “The Style Grad.” Same good ol’ Stephanie behind the words, just some new name fun. All Worn Out started about 7 years ago as a digital media project for a high school journalism class. Allie, Miriam, Caroline, and I were the original authors on the blog. They are all a year older than me, and upon graduating from high school, I was the only one who wanted to continue to blog, so that is what I did.

As I have now finished college and joined the workforce, amongst many other life changes, I thought it time to change things up on this platform as well. I have found myself searching for more content online that was catered to women like me: women who are smart like me, women who like to travel like me, women who are civically minded like me, women who are fit like me, women who are Black like me, women who are into fashion like me, women who are driven like me. In some ways, I am having a hard time finding the content that I want, so I decided it would be as good a time as any to begin creating the content I would like to see.

With that in mind, the scope of this blog will expand from what it has been, which for the most part has been fashion. Those who know me in real life, know my interests go well beyond fashion and know that my writing extends well beyond fashion. In the future, expect more posts about food, travel, wellness, and my takes on timely news and events.

I am excited to write more in this space and explore my interests with you all. Please let me know if there are any topics you would like for me to write about. Otherwise, thanks for reading.
My twin sister, Jeanette, and I spent this past weekend in Austin, Texas to celebrate our birthday. It was my first time in Texas and it was everything and nothing I expected it to be. The heat was overwhelming, the BBQ was hearty, and the nightlife was unlike anything I've ever seen.

As soon as landed, at the recommedation of our older brother, we headed to Franklin Barbecue. Franklin Barbecue is probably the most famous BBQ spot in all of the US right now and it has the line to prove it. We arrived a little after the 11am open time and were greeted with a three hour wait time. The first people to get in line that Friday arrived at 5:30am. Anyone that knows me well, knows that I don't eat meat often, let alone beef and pork. But, when in Rome. We went for the ribs, but they sold out as soon as we got to the counter to order, so we ordered pulled pork, brisket, and sausage -- we waited three hours, we had to try it all.

Look, I don't know much about meat, but you did not need to put any barbecue sauce or anything on this. It was all so flavorful on its own. Well worth the three hour wait.
This past weekend, I had the pleasure of spending time with some badass women at the opening of the Nike Air Society here in Chicago. The weekend kicked off with a bra fitting and Air Max event at the Nike Chicago store, then carried over into the events at the Air Society.

At the Air Society, there was a closet (read: decently sized room) where you could chat with women designers from Chicago and even try on some of their digs, a braid bar, henna tattoo station, manicure stations, kitchen with tasty and healthy snacks, and a totally sweet rooftop patio. Throughout the day, there were organized panel discussion and roundtable talks with women changing the game in Chicago and elsewhere. And, of course, this wouldn't be a Nike event if fitness didn't figure into the equation: there were rooftop yoga and high intensity training classes you could join. The coolest part of the event was seeing a diverse group of women come together to just hang out, have a good time, and embrace their bodies.

Welcome to the good life! (Did you catch the reference?)

If you have never spent a summer in Chicago, you're missing out. Of course, I am romanticizing the city a bit, but summer has always been the time when I get to reconnect with friends and spend more time with my family. It's also the time when the weather is more consistent and Chicagoans can count on some sunshine.

With graduation fast approaching (gasp!), my mom wanted to send out announcements to our family and friends. Just wanted to quickly share a few of my favorite shots from the mini photoshoot I had. My dress is from J.Crew, my shoes are from Banana Republic, and graduation cap was generously lent to me to by my dear friend Liz. Of course, more pics from my actual graduation to come. June 10th can't come fast enough!

So while Angelic is letting y'all know how you can get thick fit, I'm just gonna let y'all know how you can get thiiiick. Pick your poison.

Study abroad is great, but I think one of the greatest difficulties is acclimating to a new diet in a new place. This is especially difficult when you're doing a homestay and eating meals prepared by the family. Unless you're a total butthole, you eat what is given to you so as to not seem like the rude American, barring it's something you're allergic to, health reasons, etc. Even common dietary restrictions in America, like being a vegetarian, can put a relative strain on your host family for any number of reasons -- veggies can be expensive and sometimes not as readily available as they are stateside.

For me, it's been difficult transitioning to a diet that where meat is a staple. Back in Chicago, I just about never cook or eat meat -- the rare occasion is when I am cooking for friends and roommates, or eating out. But I'm a broke boy anyway, so eating out doesn't happen often. My host mom has been gracious enough to not serve me any beef or pork, and only makes dishes with chicken, turkey or fish. I also get lots of fresh veggies everyday, which is so great, but also not common when speaking to other students in my program.

This is my second time doing a study abroad program and along the way I have picked up a few things about living and eating in homestays. Oh, and some pics of what I've been eating in my homestay are included, too.

1. Eat all your veggies + fruit! And eat some more! This is the most elementary rule from when you were young. Bring it back and say it over and over again as your scarf down the broccoli and squash you haven't liked since you were six. Here in Mexico, the vegetarian options I have encountered in restaurants tend be dishes with mushrooms...mushrooms are great, but a diversity of veggies is even better and nutritious. So, when you get the veggies at home, just eat 'em. Fruit is easy because it's sweet, but eat that, too. It's rare to see fruit available at restaurants here; it's sold widely on the street, but as with street food anywhere, you have to be careful.

Breakfast: Quesadillas filled with cheese and turkey ham, tomatoes, beans, and fruit cup of watermelon and pineapple

2. You can ask for more or less food. There is nothing wrong with letting your host parents know that they give you too much or too little food. Nobody is tryna waste food or go hungry. In Spain, I sometimes asked for more food, but here in Mexico, I asked for less food. My host mom here is like the grandmother who is always worried you're not eating enough, so she gives us *lots* of food. But, in the end, it's better for everyone when there's less food waste. It might seem weird to ask for less or more food, but your host family wants you to be well at the end of the day...so let them help you be well.

I think a different sun shines on Oaxaca...like, the sun down here is something special. I have been in Mexico for almost a week now and it's been great. Mostly great because I have managed to escape the cold in Chicago.

I'm still getting acclimated to everything down here (s/o to the altitude...5,000 feet above sea level) and wanted to quickly share a few snapshots of my first few days in the sun. I am here on a study abroad program with about twenty other students from my University, so I've got lots of friends and *potential* friends to explore the city with. Our school is absolutely beautiful and, outside of the public parks, one of the few places I have seen with green space.

There are these gorgeous, tall palm trees at our school and we warned not to sit under them because sometimes the branches fall off. Either way, gotta love nature.

It is also custom to eat large meals for breakfast and lunch, and coffee and bread or pastries around dinner time. I have taken a bit to the custom and have been trying iced mochas all over town.

Last, but not least...a photo of me! I'm wearing a dress from Zara, a denim Ralph Shirt from the 80s, Birkenstocks, rose gold Marc Jacobs watch, and a beaded bracelet I picked up on my second day in Oaxaca.

Keep up with my time in Mexico on Instagram @all_worn_out. And keep an eye on the blog...some new, new content will be popping soon!
The question of the night: who needs the Met Gala when you have the Heritage Ball?

The Organization of Black Students hosted its annual Heritage Ball this past Friday at the Stoney Island Arts Bank. UChicago Professor Theaster Gates is behind the transformation of the 1920s bank into a community center, library, art gallery, and media archive. This was the first time the Heritage Ball was off campus and it couldn't have been held at a better location. About 100 students came out to the event and everyone looked really nice. Considering how stressful this past week has been for lots of students, I think Friday was a much needed relief. Also, we managed to avoid destroying any of the art, so I'd say it was a success.

As my girl Ariel pointed out, there were some very serious Solange vibes going, so we of course had to attempt to channel them in our pics.

I borrowed a dress from my roommate/bestie/ride-or-die Natalie. She came through for ya girl. Like, I said in my last post, your friends' closets are prolly lit. That's Maya killing it in the jumpsuit gifted to her for her 21st birthday by the stunner in the red, Christy.

Ariel came through with the fit from Uniqlo with the tattoo as the perfect accessory. And her twistout was on some next level stuff.

Are you crying tears of black girl magic yet???

S/O to the greatest roommates of all time. That's Natalia in the black and Natalie in the silver. We all got cool while studying abroad in Spain and relive those memories whenever we need a good laugh.

Some of my favorite ladies from the rugby team! I'd say we clean up real niiiice.

Get at me on the gram and twitterverse, @all_worn_out.
Coming out of the dark into the light with the warm weather in the Chi. The sun always serves as a solid pick-me-up, so I decided to show my face on the interwebs. Also, Lemonade. I can't even say much right now...but know that Beyoncé and James Blake working together is one of the most overwhelming facts in the world right now.

Over winter break back in December, my mom gave me one of her skirts from when she was my age. Or I think I found it and took it upon myself bring it back with me to Chicago. I wasn't too sure if I liked it, but as a true fashion girl, I'm drawn to things that are maybe kinda ugly. So, I took it upon myself to make it into an item I really liked.

Shoutout to my awkward leg. I paired the skirt with a black tank gifted to me by my cousin over winter break as well. I threw on my favorite tights and double monk straps from J. Crew.

I kept the texture and print mixing grounded by picking up on the secondary colors in the skirt -- the black and red.

This is just a friendly reminder that some of the coolest pieces might not be something new. Picking through your mom's closet or your friend's closet is a cheap and earth friendly way to refresh your own wardrobe.

Check out my instagram @all_worn_out to see why I've been gone for so long. Ya girl is officially DevaSTating...
Hellooooo out there. It's been a while since I've been on here, but, alas, New York Fashion Week came calling. While NYFW is not totally over yet, I figured I'd share some of my favorite looks so far. Ready to wear shows are my favorite: its wearable fashion. Yes, you'll get some off the wall looks, but for the most part, what's on the runway is something that you could wear as is. The shows are primed for inspiring everyday women like myself in our daily clothing choices.

First thing: runways and presentations are looking more diverse than ever. Zac Posen's had so many models of color -- truly a beautiful sight.

Now, on to the looks.

3.1 Phillip Lim. There is nothing necessarily remarkable about this look, but its simplicity is what drew me in. The silhouette and details on the coat are killer.

Prabal Gurung.  All in for this coat.

Yeezy Season Three. Not sure what makes Season Three distinctly different from Season Two or Season One, but, then again, I wonder who Kanye even is anymore. I like the idea of this look -- the monochrome, the oversized sweater with fitted skirt and thigh highs -- more than the actual look. It would be so easy to recreate a similar fit, minus the tit peeking through the sweater. But, some people are into that, so maybe with the tit peeking through.

Altuzarra.  This scarf. This bib. This skirt. Here for it.

Maiyet. This is the dress for all the she-devils out there who are secret romantics. So, I obviously need this dress.

Banana Republic. RT if you went to my high school.

Christian Siriano. Always a fan of the suit with a bare chest. This has an incredibly feminine shape to it, but coupled with a scowl, I'm sure you could scare a couple men into line.

Christian Siriano. Another joint from Siriano. This a heavy, but also kind of light look; a chunky knit scarf top paired with wide leg pants and sunglasses. Makes you wonder what season it actually is. It's an intimate look with a bit of stomach showing, but the heaviness of the top keeps the sexiness subdued.  I've been thinking about scarves, and scarf like items, as shirts for a minute. One of my favorite bloggers, Karla Deras, often pulls off looks like this with much ease.

There it is! Follow me on everything @all_worn_out
I should 100% be writing a paper right now...but we all know college students thrive at procrastinating. In looking through my old pictures to find some for an outfit posts, I came across some pics from a trip I took to Granada with one of my best friends, Natalia.

Granada was definitely the prettiest place I visited in Spain. The city felt young and storied at the same time. We went to Shawarma King (more than once), stopped into small bookstores, and shops housed in caves on the side of mountains. It's a great city to visit as a student, it wasn't very expensive and all the kids from university fill the streets at night. 10/10 would recommend.
